At Uma Educational and Technical Society (UETS), we believe that livelihood is dignity — and skill development is a right, not a privilege. Through targeted vocational training and income generation programs, UETS empowers youth with disabilities to take control of their futures.
Why Livelihood Support Matters
While education lays the foundation, skill-based training and employment support offer long-term independence. For many youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mainstream jobs are difficult to access due to:
Lack of inclusive hiring practices
Mismatch between skills and job expectations
Poor social confidence
Absence of transition programs from school to work
UETS addresses these gaps with practical, ability-based training and real-world exposure.
UETS’s Vocational Training Model UETS provides vocational training under its Uma Manovikasa Kendram centers in Kakinada, Tallarevu, Ongole, and Yanam, specifically designed for youth with intellectual disabilities, autism, hearing impairment, and multiple disabilities.
Training features:
Simple, repetitive skill structures
Peer modeling and task sequencing
Safety-focused equipment
Pre-vocational readiness: punctuality, hygiene, basic communication
Real Success Stories
Rani, Tailoring Trainee, Kakinada
Rani, a 21-year-old with mild intellectual disability, struggled with speech but had strong motor skills. After 8 months of training at UETS, she now stitches blouses and simple garments. Her work earns her Rs. 4,000/month, helping her family and building confidence.
Anil, Horticulture Learner, Ongole
Anil used to avoid social interaction due to anxiety. Today, he helps manage the garden unit, watering and labeling plants. His passion turned into a job — he sells saplings at local exhibitions, gaining not just income, but admiration.
Inclusive Livelihood = Inclusive Society
UETS goes beyond training. It bridges the gap between ability and opportunity by:
Partnering with CSR donors to create local employment
Encouraging schools to build vocational tracks
Sensitizing employers to hire inclusively
Recognizing graduates with public certificates and exhibitions
